The Culture and Basics of Music Making focuses on the definitions, compositional techniques, performance practices and the structural materials of the music's foremost genres. The course offers a broad perspective that features an eclectic scope of distinct historical and cultural contexts in order to convey a core comprehension of the fundaments of music making process. Many different styles will be discussed including but not limited to: Classical Music, pop music, jazz, funk, electronic music, song, concerto, opera, madrigal, symphony, ballet.

The Culture and Basics of Music Making. Explores pitch, timbre, melody, harmony, texture, and form through listening and creative exercises.

Haftalık konular 14 hafta
  1. Categories of Music Brief Definitions through history, concert venues, instrumentation, audience, performance practice etc., along with short examples. In an approximate chronological list: ● Ancient Music / Folk / Ethnic Music ● Classical Music ● Classical Turkish Music ● Jazz ● Pop ● Electronic Music Classical Music Pop Music (Club, dance, new genres, etc.) Homework: Writing an essay comparing the music given above, in terms of the relationship between the music and the listener.
